The Clerk of Superior Court is one of the largest employers in Durham's judicial system. Attorney LiBria Stephens possesses a unique skill set that makes her the ideal candidate for Clerk of Superior Court. She has experience in nearly every department within Durham’s judicial system. She served as Durham’s Trial Court Coordinator and interned in both the District Attorney’s and the Public Defender’s Office. LiBria also served as a Durham County Clerk. She currently serves as an appointed Durham County Jury Commissioner.
Additionally, LiBria Stephens maintains a general practice working in various areas of law. Attorney Stephens handles misdemeanor and low-level felony criminal cases, family law matters, juvenile delinquency cases, and juvenile abuse/neglect/dependency cases. Likewise, Attorney Stephens's areas of experience include wills and estates, incompetency hearings, guardianships, name changes, legitimation petitions, and partitions concerning the division of property. Certainly, these are areas of law relevant to serving as Clerk of Superior Court.
More importantly, LiBria serves in positions of trust and has managed the affairs of others. LiBria's exposure and experience in the various legal arenas produce a skill set necessary to navigate Durham’s judiciary and to serve as Clerk of Superior Court.
LiBria has trained to be a supervisor and has experience supervising others. LiBria's fair and open-minded approach to leadership would be welcomed and appreciated in Durham’s judicial environment. Her direct and even-tempered approach to issues has served LiBria well in past roles, and she plans to utilize the same as Clerk of Superior Court.
